Tidal Measurements

OHS staff uses submersible tide gauges for inlet studies or in conjunction with a hydrographic survey to obtain a common datum. Data can be recorded in 5 second intervals for a deployment period of several months.

Current Measurements

When performing a flushing or numerical analysis for a marine structure, it’s necessary to obtain current readings over an entire tidal cycle. OHS uses state of the art ADCP current gauges to obtain readings from a small boat or seafloor mount. Typically, the current readings are obtained alongside with tide gauge readings. OHS is one of the few firms to successfully deploy ADCP gauges in the extremely difficult conditions of Cook Inlet Alaska and offshore of remote Guyana.

Vibracores

OHS can conduct vibracore samples to determine sand characteristics and sediment layer classifications at your project site. Regulatory agencies often require this data when permitting a dredging project to ensure that the spoil material is free from contaminants. Vibracores are also used to ensure quality material is available in borrow areas.

Jet Probes

Jet probes are generally used to determine sand depths at any given underwater sand source location. This information is used in estimating the amount of sand that may be available for usage, for dredge quantity estimates, or to determine the depth of bedrock when designing pilings.

Wind & Wave Studies

OHS can conduct wind and wave studies with the use of real-time and historical data for your project site. Typically, we will generate a wind/wave rose depicting the seasonal conditions of your project site in order to determine appropriate locations for structures such as boat slips, jetties, and breakwaters.
